The OPPO PM-2 Planar Magnetic headphones are characterised by a
distillation of the OPPO PM-1s key acoustic and industrial design
features into a more affordable price point. Similar to the OPPO PM-1,
the PM-2 is characterised by its natural, dynamic, and engaging sound
quality with an emphasis on comfort and reduced weight. The PM-2 uses
the same driver as the PM-1, and the same technological breakthroughs
are present in the PM-2: the use of a unique 7-layer diaphragm,
double-sided spiraling coils, and an FEM-optimised magnet system. The OPPO PM-2 Planar Magnetic
headphone offers a different way of thinking about planar magnetic
technology. The PM-2 is characterised by its natural, dynamic, and
engaging sound quality with an emphasis on comfort and reduced weight.
It is the result of many years of research led by a team comprised of
passionate audio and acoustics engineers, chemical and materials
scientists, and audiophiles. A number of technological breakthroughs
have made their way into the PM-2, including the use of a unique 7-layer
diaphragm, double-sided spiraling coils, and an FEM-optimised magnet
The advantages of planar magnetic
technology are based on the fact that in a planar driver, sound is
generated by a very thin and light diaphragm that is driven evenly over
the entire radiating area. Sound, entering our ear, has a planar wave
front at the so called ear reference point (ERP), with all spectrum
components in phase. A typical dynamic headphone driver, due to its
phase irregularity, disrupts that coherence, resulting in less than
perfect signal peak reconstruction, especially of very short impulses. A
planar magnetic driver has another advantage that relates to its purely
resistive impedance. It has a flat conductor pattern that does not have
any inductive component, which eliminates inductance related IM
distortion, common in dynamic headphones. A resistive load also ensures
that any amplifier will drive the headphones without any changes in
spectral balance.
OPPO uniquely integrates many innovations and proprietary methods
developed over the years with the latest breakthroughs in materials and
manufacturing techniques. Results of this research, focused on
eliminating issues affecting many planar magnetic headphones, such as
low sensitivity, weight, insufficient diaphragm stability, consistency
and reliability, have been implemented in this new technology. The OPPO
planar magnetic headphone uses an FEM optimised magnet system with very
high energy Neodymium magnets. A large oval planar diaphragm is
positioned in an evenly distributed symmetric magnetic field. The
diaphragm has a spiraling pattern of flat conductors etched on both
sides of a very thin polymer film. The magnetic system and conductor
patterns are optimized for maximum driving force (sensitivity) and
consistency of the applied force over the radiating area. The
double-sided diaphragm has 7 layers of extremely thin materials, each
doing a specific job for best performance, reliability and longevity.
These advantages of OPPOs high resolution planar magnetic technology
and advanced headphone design provide for a very open, transparent, and
highly dynamic sound that exhibits well-balanced tonal qualities with
vanishingly low distortion, resulting in a headphone that communicates

resolution portable device. Phase Coherence - When sound enters our ear, it has a planar wave
front with all spectrum components in phase. A typical dynamic
headphone driver disrupts this coherence with its phase irregularity,

of the diaphragm are vibrating in concert without break up and delayed
Purely Resistive ImpedanceOPPOs planar magnetic driver has a
flat conductor pattern that does not have any inductive components. This
eliminates inductance related intermodulation distortion, which is
especially common in dynamic drivers with high impedance and a high
number of voice coil turns.
Stability, Consistency, ReliabilityMany planar magnetic
headphones have large balance deviations between the left and right
channels, and accurate stereo reproduction is contingent on having a
very close match between the left and right channels. During the OPPO
PM-2s manufacturing process, drivers are closely matched to ensure
optimum stereo imaging and soundstage. DiaphragmOPPOs planar magnetic driver diaphragm has 7 layers of
thin materials that provide excellent performance, reliability, and
longevity. The construction of the diaphragm ensures that it is very
stable under thermal stress and vibration.
Double-Sided Spiraling CoilsThe diaphragm utilises a spiralling
pattern of flat aluminium conductors on either side of the driver. The
double-sided design allows twice as many conductors to be placed within
the magnetic field, which leads to higher sensitivity, better damping,
and even drive force.
FEM-Optimised Magnet System - An FEM-optimised magnet system with
very high energy Neodymium magnets is used to maximise sensitivity and
consistency of the applied force over the driver area.
High Sensitivity - Many planar magnetic headphones have a
sensitivity far below 100 dB and require very powerful amplifiers to
drive. The OPPO PM-2 has a sensitivity of 102 dB, which allows it to
pair well with both mobile devices and scale upwards when used with high
end headphone amplifiers.
Build QualityThe OPPO PM-2 is ruggedly constructed with an
emphasis on long term use and maximum consistency from unit to unit. The
headphones have been tested to very high standards to withstand
mechanical and environmental stress in order to guarantee exceptional
performance throughout its lifespan.

Easily Replaceable ComponentsThe OPPO PM-2s ear pads are mounted
on rubber inserts that can be easily cleaned or replaced. This design
maintains compatibility with the PM-1s ear pads and makes trying out
the PM-1s lambskin and velour earpads nearly effortless. The headphone
cable is detachable and uses 2.5 mm mono mini jacks to connect to the
earcups, making it easy to switch between the longer, 6.35 mm terminated

circuit for the headphones is Class AB built with integrated circuits
(ICs) and discrete transistors. The discrete transistor output stage
uses hand-picked and matched parts. The output transistors are biased to
operate in their most linear range for the critical small signal, and

Made for iPod, iPhone and iPad - The HA-2 passes Apple's
MFi certification and is compatible with the latest iPod, iPhone and
iPad to be used as the digital audio output accessory of these devices.
By tapping directly into the digital audio signal of these devices and
converting the audio to analogue using the high performance SABRE32 Reference
DAC, music from your favourite portable device will sound its best.
Furthermore, for users with high-resolution music playback apps, the
HA-2 does not require the use of a Camera Connection Kit (CCK). The data
cables that come with your Apple device or the supplied Lightning cable
is sufficient.
Compatible with Android - The HA-2s micro-USB input port works
with Android devices that support USB OTG (USB On-The-Go) and USB Audio
Class. A special USB OTG cable is supplied with the HA-2 to facilitate
the connection. When used with a compatible Android device, the HA-2 can
support the device's built-in music app, tones and notifications.
Additionally, a high-resolution music playback app can use the HA-2 as
its external DAC to play lossless PCM and DSD audio files.
Audio-In and Line-Out - The HA-2 has a 3.5 mm Audio-In port to
support portable music players that do not have a USB-compatible digital
output. While the HA-2 is used with one of its USB digital input ports,
the 3.5 mm jack acts as Line-Out for the USB DAC.

most important components for digital audio playback. The ES9018-K2M DAC
chip used in the HA-2 is the mobile version of the ES9018S used in our
award-winning HA-1 desktop headphone amplifier. With the ESS patented

Asynchronous USB DAC - By bypassing the smartphone's built-in
DAC and headphone amplification circuit that are often cost-constrained,
the HA-2 turns a smartphone into a high performance digital audio
player. The asynchronous USB DAC input of the HA-2 also works with PC
and Mac computers to replace the built-in sound card and support
high-resolution audio playback with PCM up to 384 kHz 24-bit and DSD up
to 12 MHz (DSD256).
Clean Signal Path - There is no DSP (Digital Signal Processor)
in the HA-2. Volume control is operated by a combination of the DAC
chip's internal digital volume control and an analog potentiometer (the
familiar volume knob). Bass boost is performed by pure analogue audio
circuits. By avoiding re-digitising the audio signal for volume
adjustment or bass boost, the HA-1 provides a clean signal path for the
Bass Boost - For those who like a bit more punch and impact with
their music, the HA-2 offers a Bass Boost function. With Bass Boost
off, the HA-2 delivers a ruler-flat frequency response; with Bass Boost
on, the HA-2 adds force and impact to the sub-bass region without
muddling the important mid- to high-frequency bands.
Two Gain Settings - The HA-2 offers two gain level settings for
optimal headphone matching. The High Gain mode is capable of driving
large power-hungry headphones, delivering up to 300 mW into 16-Ohm
headphones. The Low Gain mode is intended for sensitive In-Ear Monitor
type earphones.
Rapid Charging - The HA-2 features patented VOOC rapid charging
technology from OPPO. Using the supplied rapid charger, the internal
battery can be quickly and safely charged to 75% capacity in about 30
minutes. It only takes approximately 90 minutes to fully charge the
battery. A quick charge gives the HA-2 hours of operation time.
Mobile Power Bank - The HA-2 functions as an external battery
pack to charge your mobile device. Utility and convenience are factors
we wanted to address with the HA-2, so you can ditch the bulky spare
battery pack and carry just the HA-2 with you mobile phone.
